Interested Party Information Name Number (abbreviated as "IPI", "IPI Number", or "IPI #") is a unique identifying number used and assigned internationally by collection societies to identify and distinguish between natural persons (e.g. songwriters, composers, lyricists, arrangers) and legal entities (e.g. publishers, self-publishing entities, administrators, estates). In Europe, it is sometimes called a CAE, which stands for Composer, Author, Editor (a/k/a Publisher).

• IPI stands for: Interested Party Information
• CAE stands for: Composer, Author and Publisher

Today's IPI numbers are 9 to 11 digits in length. However, older IPI numbers may be as short as 8 digits. In the case of an older IPI number, add a leading "0" (e.g. 012345678) when inputting the IPI number in TuneRegistry.

The IPI number is provided to parties by a performance rights organization (PRO) after the writer or publisher has joined a PRO.

WRITER IPI
You will see a field for an IPI number for writers on Creator profiles in the Contacts module. If the writer has previously joined a PRO, enter his/her IPI number in the field provided. If a natural person (e.g. writer) is not a member of a PRO, then leave the IPI field blank. (Note: Each Alias can have a separate IPI number as long as it is assigned by the PRO.)

PUBLISHER IPI
You will see a field for an IPI number for publishers on Company profiles in the Contacts module. If the publisher has previously joined a PRO, enter its IPI number in the field provided. If a legal entity (e.g. publisher) is not a member of a PRO, then the entity cannot be linked to a writer in TuneRegistry. (Note: Publishers can join multiple PROs and obtain an IPI for its membership at each PRO. Be sure to enter the IPI that matches the PRO selected on the Publisher PRO drop-down.)

LOCATE YOUR IPI NUMBER
You can obtain an IPI number by conducting a public search of the repertory on your PRO's website (if available), by contacting your PRO, or by logging into your account on your PRO's website (if available).
